World Earth Day Wooden Medal for a Virtual 10k Challenge

About the World Earth Day Challenge

Earth Day takes place each year on 22 April and has become one of the best-known environmental awareness events in the world. For this project, Virtual Racing UK came to us with a medal idea for their World Earth Day virtual challenge.

Participants were invited to run, walk, cycle or swim 10k at any point during April, earning a custom medal on completion. The event also had a charitable element, with £2 from every entry donated to a cause helping to tackle climate change.

Why This Medal Worked So Well

This project was a great match for a wooden medal because the material naturally supported the message behind the event. A sustainability-focused challenge deserves an award that feels aligned with those values.

Medal Design Details

The medal design had already been created by the organiser, so our role was to refine it for production. We adjusted contrast levels and made a few artwork tweaks to make sure the finer details of the globe engraved clearly into the wood.

The final medal was produced in our premium 5mm thick wood, giving the design a crisp etched finish with a natural look that suited the theme perfectly.

It is a great example of how detailed artwork can still look bold and effective when translated onto a wooden medal.

Custom Ribbon Finishing Touch

To complete the medal, we took the organiser’s ribbon artwork and applied it to a bright green satin ribbon using our single foil colour printing process.

The green ribbon tied in perfectly with the World Earth Day theme and helped give the finished medal a bold, event-ready appearance.
