On a podcast the other day we were discussing how the event afford to run but turns out they were loading up on freebies:
Bananas from Waitrose
Volunteers from local clubs
Support from community groups

All by asking. Its easy to just hide away and go back to“We need to buy this”. Or even hear that from someone else and believe it instead of
“Who would benefit from being involved?” there are local businesses who want visibility, there are groups who need exposure.

You just need to ask.
