🏅 How We Make Our 65mm Custom Wooden Medals
At Zero Waste Medals, we’re proud to handcraft every piece in-house using sustainable materials and precise laser technology. In this post, we’ll walk you through how our 65mm wooden medals are made — from the very first laser cut to the final ribbon seal.
Step 1: Cutting the Medal Blanks
The process begins with a sheet of sustainable plywood, ensuring that every medal we create is made from responsibly sourced wood. Using our CO₂ laser cutter, we carefully cut out each 65mm medal blank with clean, accurate edges that set the foundation for a perfect finish.
Step 2: Engraving the Design
Next, the blanks move to our CO₂ galvo engraver. This is where the design truly comes to life.
The galvo laser etches your custom artwork directly into the surface of the wood, adding depth and texture that you can see and feel. It’s a precise process that ensures every detail of your logo or design is captured beautifully.
Step 3: Adding the Ribbon
Once engraved, the medals are fitted with a royal blue plain ribbon — a vibrant, classic choice that complements the natural wood grain. To finish, the ribbon ends are sealed using ultrasonic welding, which creates a neat, durable join without any glue or stitching.
A Sustainable, Personal Touch
From start to finish, every medal is made with sustainability and craftsmanship in mind. Each piece is a reflection of our commitment to quality, zero-waste production, and environmentally responsible design.
