Race Day Stories - Yateley Road Races

This is a mid-week series of races which takes place in Yateley, Surrey, on the evenings of the first Wednesday of June, July and August every year.

The races are managed by 2 Race Directors in conjunction with the local running clubs, Sandhurst Joggers, the Local Lions, local Scout groups and the local football team, not forgetting local schools which allow the group to use their premises either as the start and finish area or for parking.

"This is a gargantuan effort putting these races on, but everyone pulls their weight, and they go off with very few problems, the unpredictable weather usually being the main issue."

"The purpose of these races is to raise funds for local charities, which we distribute at the end of the series, for which they are very grateful indeed."

"I was only appointed, as joint Race Director, in 2022 and I felt we should be trying to become more sustainable in our approach, so out with plastic water bottles and in with compostable cups, I also wanted to source medals which did not have such a carbon footprint via their transportation."

"I spoke to Andrew at the Farnborough Running show and he gave me a few samples of the medals Zero Waste Medals could produce, and the fact that I could return unused medals and receive a discount on my next order was of huge interest to me. Since then, I have been ordering my medals from Zero waste and am looking at a few different options for 2024, which will be here before we know it." ~ Alison Jones (Race Director, Yateley Road Races)
