Making the change for World Earth Day
We get lots of requests every day for all different types of medals. Medals for sports, running medals, charity medals, you name it we've had it. But each one is special and the one you're about to read about is no different.
Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the 50th anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. It’s estimated that up to 20 million people participated in protests and other activities related to Earth Day during its first year in 1970. Virtual Racing UK Virtual Runs Virtual Challenges Fitness Earn Medals came to us with an idea to create a medal to mark this special occasion for their event.
Throughout April they gave the opportunity to commemorate World Earth Day with this 10k virtual challenge, and they donated £2 from every entry fee to an amazing charity tackling climate change. People were able to run, walk, cycle or swim 10k any time in April for the wooden medal.
Having already created the design it was a nice simple project to undertake. A slight tweak of the contrast levels and a few layer adjustments to ensure that none of the finer detail of the globe was missing from the design and it was pretty much good to go.
As you can see from the photo the world earth day design really looks great etched into our premium 5mm thick wood.
We think this wooden medal strikes with real resonance with the environmental issues at hand. As far as wooden medals go this one has never looked more at home. Wood is a renewable material and creates less negative impacts on the environment compared with the more common metal medal. Production of metal is more harmful to the environment and isn't a sustainable product.
Switching to a more sustainable material for your medals and trophies is an excellent way to show you are environmentally conscious and are working towards making small changes to make the world a healthier place to live.
The wooden medals alone look incredible but in addition to this we also took a ribbon design they had and transferred it using our single foil colour printing process on to some bright green satin ribbon.
The finished look was really something to behold.
Here are a few more examples of what can be achieved on a wooden medal:
