Event Weekly Win 1: If entries are dropping, read this
Words I like: Put the 100% effort into something that makes a difference, not into something keeps things the same as last year.
Event Win of the Week: If entries are dropping, something is wrong
5 years ago Yateley 10K used to get around 1000 runners. That dropped to about 600 all of a sudden but... nothing major had changed?… which was exactly the problem.
Same course. Same setup. Same experience. For as long as people could remember! So they made a decision. Change the venue. Change the course. Change the experience.
Entries climbed back up to 700+. The lesson here is simple if numbers are falling, something isn’t working. It’s not bad luck. It’s not timing. It’s the event. Which like most things can suffer from fatigue.
Question:
What haven’t you changed in your event for years? Do the same thing every year get the same result. See what making a change could do.
