Wolo Foundation (We only live once)

Wolo Foundation (We Only Live Once) helps to improve the quality of life of families living in Sussex on their cancer journeys. The bespoke support they offer includes practical help and emotional support, wellness opportunities and family experiences.

They work with local businesses and communities to offer all family members a wealth of services to support them through their diagnosis, treatment and beyond.

A cancer diagnosis is devasting for the whole family – physically, emotionally and financially. Children are frightened and confused. Parents struggle to cope with day-to-day tasks, which become challenging or impossible due to treatment and appointments. The whole family is impacted. The co-founders of Wolo (We Only Live Once) learnt this firsthand as they navigated their own cancer journey and discovered how little support was out there beyond the basic clinical treatment. Their personal experience led to the founding of the Wolo Foundation, which provides bespoke support to families in Sussex on their cancer journeys.

Wolo helps families in many different ways. Wolo provides support through practical services like cleaning and purchasing equipment, while also focusing on their physical and mental well-being. With access to various therapies, Wolo’s exclusive wellness course and weekly exercise classes, Wolo ensures families are supported on every level.

Free family events give families a chance to meet others who are going through similar experiences, helping them feel less isolated on their cancer journeys.

Wolo works closely with other local charities and businesses. By complementing the services they offer, Wolo ensures that every base is covered, and families are supported on every level. Wolo has created a network that helps reduce isolation and provides comprehensive support, ensuring families never feel alone on their cancer journey.

Wolo currently supports over 160 families all across Sussex. Their personalised approach means that each family gets exactly what they need, whether it’s emotional care or practical help. Being involved with Wolo has shown me how much of an impact they have and I know that with more support, they could reach even more families who desperately need their help. Statistics show that 1 in 2 people in the UK born after 1960 will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Life is precious - we need to make the most of it - we only live once - Wolo!
